Not So Black and White

Time to be honest. I am not loving this outfit. There’s nothing wrong with it. And black and white is totally on-trend for the fashion world right now. But for some reason I just don’t feel like me today.
Maybe it’s the white t-shirt. I so rarely wear t-shirts that it feels out of sorts. Actually, I think that’s really what’s doing it. The white t-shirt is just too unstructured for me. Fascinating.
See, playing around in your closet can help you figure out what you do and don’t like about your wardrobe. Not to self: white t-shirts are only to be worn as layering items under sweaters.
Would you wear this outfit? Would you change anything about it?
P.S. I have a fun post coming up next week that requires reader participation! Look for it on Tuesday.

Nothing is classier to me than tweed and a pencil skirt.
A reader recently contacted me and asked for help with a pair of ankle boots she just bought.
Right now I’m pretty happy with my closet. But even so there are days when I stand there and stare at all the hangers and think, “I wish I had….”
I’ve had all of these clothing pieces in my closet for a long time. I keep wavering on whether or not to keep the cardigan and then it keeps staying.
Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.

I love how spunky you’ve been looking in your pics lately!
It’s easier to be spunky when you’re hamming it up for an actual person behind the camera as opposed to no one!
I actually really like it. It’s casual, yet put together. The only thing I might change is to a darker jean wash!
I’m still on the hunt for the perfect darker jeans but in this same cut. Not too skinny, not too flared. I’m hoping that the pair I just bought via Poshmark will fit the bill.
I love your outfit– that blazer is gorgeous on you! And I love your necklace..it doesn’t look as chunky as the other bubble necklaces out there. Happy Friday!
Yep, it’s a mini bubble necklace. Perfect for getting the style without it being overwhelming.
Love your zebra heels
Thanks! They are fun, aren’t they?
I love that jacket and those shoes!! I like the outfit on you as-is, but if it I were wearing it, I agree with Kim on the darker wash jeans – a lighter wash always feels really casual to me (but it IS casual Friday, no?). I’d probably put some color somewhere too because, for some reason, I don’t do black & white on its own very often.
When I find my perfect dark wash jeans I’m pretty sure they’re going to get a lot of wear! Still on the hunt, though. I do have these same Old Navy jeans in a darker wash but they’re slightly too short to wear with heels.
I’m between average and tall in most pants, so I have that problem a lot! Have you tried Ann Taylor? I got a great pair of dark wash bootcut jeans there last month that I wear all the time!
My problem is that I don’t want bootcut but I don’t want super skinny, either! Where are these pants, I want to know.
If this outfit were in my own closet (loving that jacket!), I would go for my long-sleeved white tee, which always look dressier to me than the regular short-sleeved ones I have. The long sleeves would also help balance out the 3/4 length of the jacket sleeves.
Interesting! I much prefer 3/4 length tops so it never occurs to me to wear a longer sleeved one under a 3/4 length one (the t-shirt I have on is actually long-sleeved but I pushed the sleeves up).
I like 3/4 sleeves, too — also helps longer-limbed ladies deal with sleeve shrinkage, like it was intentional! — and I’ve been having fun lately experimenting with sleeve length. Like layering a longer-sleeved t-shirt or cardigan underneath a 3/4 length blazer or jacket with the sleeves rolled up.

I’m going to have to say that I really like this outfit, it’s a really fun way to dress up a white tee shirt and jeans. (I love the mix of the two patterned items, the jacket and the shoes really balance each other out.) It’s is pretty different to see you wearing a tee shirt though!
I’m excited about this post on Tuesday, I can’t wait to see it.
Perhaps if I had a tee that I liked better than this one which feels too…unstructured I might like it better.
