This Is Not the Outfit You’re Looking For
17 Jan
Sweater – Kohl’s (similar) | Shirt – The Limited (similar) | Pants – The Limited | Shoes – Eric Michael | Bracelet – House of Gemmes
There was an entirely different outfit on the docket for today. One involving a sequined skirt and a cardigan. But here’s what happened.
My husband is in college getting his bachelor’s degree in chemistry. And, as some of you may recall, when you’re an undergraduate you have to take elective courses. One of his courses this semester? Digital photography for non-majors.
Now, I am super excited about him taking this course. Why? Because either this means I can rope him into being my photographer and using his new skills or he can teach me what he’s learned and I can apply those same skills myself.
The downside to this class? We only have one camera. Which means that in addition to scheduling things like who’s taking the car when and who’s using the washer and dryer when (yes, we do our own laundry) we now have to schedule who’s taking the camera when. And he needed it this morning. So, this outfit is actually from yesterday when I still had the camera and the chance to take a photo on my lunch break.
This outfit isn’t that different from the last time I wore this sweater but, hey, that’s how it goes when you’re trying to wear what you’ve got in your closet. Still, swapping out the skirt and booties for pants and flats does a new outfit make!
But I still owe you a sequined skirt.

Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.
Ever since I bought this tie-neck top I have been wanting to pair it with these pants.
Today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite ways to this lace dress that I’ve come up with yet.

If Max would actually do his laundry, I would totes do it seperately but considering he could care less about clean clothes (and I do) I just do it for the both of us.
I’m wearing a VERY similar shirt today!
Oh, Jason’s laundry pile sometimes rivals Mt. Everest. But I figure he did his own laundry for years before we lived together and I don’t want him to forget how
And I thought you didn’t like button-downs?
I love both outfits (skirt and pants)…awesome that you reworked what you already have in your closet! And what a great elective for your husband to take- both of you reap the benefits!
Would love to know what kinds of tips he picks up from class!
He has his first assignment due tomorrow so we’ll see what he learns!
I already love you forever, but please tell me this title was a pun on this – https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/response/isnt-petition-response-youre-looking – and, uh, I will love you forever even more
We gotta find you a second camera
I think I am going to ask a Friday Question about doing your spouse’s laundry. Do people really do that?!
Well, it was a play on the original line from Star Wars so, uh, kind of? Come on! You know we’re Star Wars geeks!
I’m sure I’ve told you about the woman at my old job who, upon finding out I didn’t do Jason’s laundry, replied with, “But you at least iron his stuff, right?”
Uh, no.
Hey Erin,
I’ve been a lurker on your blog for a while, and I’m finally going to ask…what’s the significance of your spot tattoo? (Sorry if I missed a previous post about it.)
And every time you post a picture with your watch, it makes me happy because I have that same one!
Anyway. You’re adorable.
I don’t think I’ve ever written about it in a post so thank you for commenting and asking!!
Spot was the first dog my husband and I adopted. When he passed away I decided to get a tattoo to honor him. Hence the “spot” tattoo
I was going to echo Kilax’s thought and ask if it was a reference to the death star petition. (Oh, I love the response to that petition SO much. I ended up crying I laughed so hard over it.)
That’s really awesome about your husband taking a photography class, it always helps when there’s someone right there to teach you the tricks rather than trying to just read about it. (That might be me though, I’m way more of hands-on learner than I am just reading about stuff.) That’s kind of funny that you end up having to share the camera though!
I really like the subtle shine between the sweater and the shoes and I am drooling over your black spiked bracelet!
After seeing his first assignment I don’t have high hopes for this class. It seems to be more about “art” and less about how to actually compose a decent picture. Oh well!
I love the sweater and am looking forward to how you wear a sequined skirt to the office.
My husband and I do our own laundry too. I offered to do his when he moved in but he said he felt weird having me do it. He doesn’t want to do mine because he worries he’d mess it up (I do too).
Yeah, mine doesn’t do mine for the same reason!
LOL on you and Jason having to schedule usage of the camera. I was just reminiscing to someone else this morning about how much digital photography has changed the landscape of photography (literally and figuratively). I took a journalism class in high school where we learned about photography, and back then we also learned how to develop rolls of film in a darkroom. Amazing how times have changed!!!
I love love love love LOVE that sweater. I love the pairing with the white shirt and the black pants, too. It really makes the sparkles pop!
My college roommate was a photographer for our college paper and I remember her having to spend time developing photos, too! And it’s crazy to think that my first digital camera had fewer megapixels than my phone!
