Inspiration Monday: The Silhouette

Today’s inspiration photo is a simple black v-neck dress. Seems easy enough, right?

I actually think the purple dress I wore last Tuesday is a better fit for this inspiration image, but I decided to try something different. Plus, considering the weather there was no way I was A. going bare legged or B. wearing a v-neck. So, I decided to stick with the silhouette of the slightly flared skirt. This pleated skirt is really the only one I own the fit the bill so here it is.
Also, I attempted to dragoon my husband into take my outfit photos and he wasn’t super thrilled with doing it on our icy (and cold) roof. Hence the ridiculous look on my face.
Or maybe that’s just my disgust at having to go to work today. After a weekend celebrating my birthday that started with a painting outing with friends on Thursday and culminated with a wine tasting tour in Michigan with my mom yesterday you can probably understand my reluctance to get back to regular life!

Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.
Ever since I bought this tie-neck top I have been wanting to pair it with these pants.
Today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite ways to this lace dress that I’ve come up with yet.

LOVE that skirt. I think it adds a really nice pop of color to your outfit, and the pleats are really cute as well.
Also: +1000000 to you for taking an outdoor picture this morning. Can’t say I even would have thought about setting foot outside of my apartment without the warmest coat I have.
Hahahah, I think we were outside for about 2 minutes
If you don’t think about how cold it is it’s not that bad for a minute or two. But I asked him to help so that I didn’t have to deal with the tripod and freeze my fingers off!
happy belated birthday!! that sounds like a great weekend. i love this skirt on you. the fit and color are perfect!
Thank you! I’m so not used to wearing a less fitted skirt so it’s nice to have some reassurance that it does look good!
You’re so shy!
Actually, the sun was in my eyes!
I like the skirt! It adds some nice color and texture to your outfit, and the shape is really nice on you.
Thank you!
Belated birthday wishes Erin! love the way u’ve styled this skirt . It kinda makes it the “star” of the outfit with all neutrals. i guess i like it better this way than the one u had styled before with a purple top .
It definitely stands out when paired with all the black!
Gorgeous pleated skirt! I have a midi-length one that I don’t know how to style, and now I’m wondering whether I should shorten it to knee length …
Happy belated birthday – sounds like you had a wonderful weekend.
Oooh, a pleated midi skirt would be difficult to style. Knee-length would be easier. I once bought an ankle length pleated skirt but I felt too stumpy in it so I sold it.
Oh gosh, I wonder what the temp with wind was on your rooftop! You are a trooper!
It was probably like 12 degrees. But we were only out there for a minute. Hence the ridiculous photo.
Oh my gosh, I am in love with this skirt
Great styling and I would be wearing that skirt all the time if I were you
Brett
What would you wear it with? I tend to get stuck wearing it with black. Although I have worn it with blush once before!
Happy Belated Birthday Erin! (It sounds like you had such a fun weekend, painting and wine tasting is so much fun!)
I do that to my husband as well, every now and then it’s either really cold, I forget the tripod or just don’t feel like setting it up and I drag him into taking pictures. (I don’t know why, I almost always end up looking like a dork because I feel so silly having other people take pictures of me.) And yeah, so with you on the bare legs right now, even with the warmer weather it’s still too cold for that!
I always love seeing how you remix your closet, I remember this skirt from a while back and I love how you paired it with the dark tights and the booties, it looks very sleek with the turtleneck and has a great silhouette.
The turtleneck definitely tones down the flare-ness of the skirt! Also, I kept thinking of you all day and your love of a-line skirts
Love the skirt. Nice ootd! You’re so brave battling the hawk! Brrr…
Ah, the challenges of being a style blogger
