Today’s Inspiration Monday is adorable and one I could have recreated much more faithfully by wearing my skinny black pants and a different scarf. But, I’ve had this houndstooth pencil skirt in my closet for a month or so and thought it was the perfect time to wear it. Why?

The pattern on Blake’s scarf isn’t houndstooth but the fact that she has on an all-black outfit with a touch of pattern in one piece just screamed out for me to wear my houndstooth skirt. And pair it with my new ZARA moto jacket.
Also, I’m loving the juxtaposition of the preppy houndstooth pattern with the rockstar look of the moto jacket. Wearing it with my black skinny pants would have been just a bit too expected, I think. Not bad. I love Blake’s look. Just, you know, I wanted to bring a bit of my preppy side into the equation!
Do you like Blake’s outfit? How would you interpret it?

Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.
Ever since I bought this tie-neck top I have been wanting to pair it with these pants.
Today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite ways to this lace dress that I’ve come up with yet.

Ooo, I do like Blake’s big scarf but I like your outfit better. My sister wore her houndstooh cardi that I gave her today!
Fun! Where did you end up finding the cardigan? Was it Target?
Yep, good ole Tarjayjay
I love that skirt and you’re right, it looks really great with the jacket!
I just wish it was warm enough for me to wear just this jacket on its own. I had to layer my red trench over the top so I didn’t freeze while waiting for the train this morning.
This reminded me that I have a houndstooth skirt almost exactly like that (I think it’s banana republic) and haven’t worn it yet this winter! I know what I’m wearing to work tomorrow.
What will you wear it with?
I’ll either go with a black top like you or red. Most likely red. I really like the red/black/white combo. I’ll probably wear my black boots too.
I love your outfit, it is classy and elegant and sexy all at the same time! I really like wearing shoes that are the same color as our tights, too, because I think it makes our legs look longer.
When you have a chance, I have a purple-and-gold scarf and would love any new ideas on how to wear it! It’s a deep purple, like a plum-color. Thanks!
Totally with you on wearing shoes that match the tights! I really dislike being cut off at the ankle.
Do you have a picture of the scarf? Or can you find something similar online?
I will take a picture of it tonight and email it to you. Thanks!!!!
I’d wear Blake’s outfit as is, haha, no surprise there. I really like your take on it though. Very chic and unexpected. And I totally dig that skirt! I also really like the polka dots with it.
Blake’s outfit is right up your alley! Although, I’d probably wear it as-is on the weekend. Need to remember that for myself.
great look! i love the houndstooth skirt and even more so with that scarf!
The scarf does add a little something-something, doesn’t it?
I normally don’t like ankle booties with skirts but I actually like this. I think it’s because of the black tights.
LOVE!
I typically only wear these booties with the black tights because, like you, I don’t like it when the booties are super obvious.
I like how you tied your scarf!
The hounds tooth skirt is a total favorite of mine
Great job
Brett
Thanks! I am scarf-tying challenged so I have one or two go-to ways to wear them. I’m happy that it turned out!
Ooooh, it’s the new leather jacket! I love it with the hounds-tooth skirt, it is a little more unexpected and the booties with the dark tights keep the edgy look going. I just completely love this outfit, it looks so cozy and winter-ish and the patterned skirt just adds so much visual interest.
The only downside I discovered is that even though the skirt is lined it kept creeping up my tights when I walked! Do you ever have that problem?
