It’s funny how you think about cardigans.  They’re meant to be worn over something, right?  But what happens when you have a crewneck style cardigan and you button it all the way up?  It becomes more like a regular crewneck sweater!  That’s what I did with this outfit after I saw an photo on Pinterest with a woman wearing a green sweater with a leopard cardigan.  Darn, I thought.  I wish I had a green sweater.

But, wait!  I actually do!  And even if this had been more of a v-neck cardigan you could still get the same idea with the colors and patterns.

So, this is my PSA to tell you think about wearing your cardigans buttoned all the way up.  What have you got to lose?

Funny story about this photo shoot.  Molly was taking the pictures and a woman walking down the sidewalk stopped and said, “That’s my house!  Do you want me to take a picture of both of you on the steps?” (Aside: this is the Keith House)  No, thank you, we said.  Just trying to get a picture of me by my lonesome.  “Oh, so it’s not a friends thing?”  Uh, well, we’re friends but, no, we’re not taking a friends picture.  Awkward!

I have these pants and I’ve been wondering what colors I can wear with them since they are a charcol grey-I’ve been sticking with white, but now I know green! other thoughts??

Red, eggplant and navy all come to mind. I actually wore gray pants with a red sweater yesterday!

Great idea. I have plenty of cardigans but have never worn one buttoned all the way. I sometimes button them half way up from the bottom though. I will have to do this.

That’s usually how I wear mine, too, but I figured this way gives me a slight new look!

    Bahahahaha best story ever.

I really like the idea of buttoning a cardigan all the way up! I almost always wear my cardigans open, but especially if you pair it with a scarf or something it looks like it’s possible to make a buttoned up cardigan not look totally nerdy. Hooray! I just gained two new sweaters to my wardrobe! Haha.

Were you reading my blog when I had a guy on the roof of my building comment that I must be a realtor because why else would I be taking my own picture with the city in the background? Yeah. That was also awkward.

Awkward indeed – but the pics turned out great and that buttoned up cardigan tip doubles my sweater wardrobe!

They did turn out great! I didn’t even have to crop this one. Good job, Ms. Photographer :-)

I’ve been stocking up on more green this year- it’s one of my favorites!

I don’t own a lot of green, but I think this dark green color is really on-trend right now. Where have you found your favorite items so far?

      • Amy B @ Second City Randomness November 15, 2012 at 11:57 am #

Zara! Ever since my obsession with Kate Middleton flared up, I’ve been crazy about that store.

Would you believe I’ve only been in Zara once? I wanted everything in the store, though, so I need to wait until I’ve saved up some cash before I go back!

Hahaha, that was a great story about the photo shoot.

And I never think to wear my cardigans buttoned up as sweaters either; I definitely need to try this!

At least she didn’t yell at us to get off her porch, right?

Heh, awkward stories are the best. That’s pretty crazy that that is her house, it looks gigantic! (And funny that she was cool about that, I always get the stink eye if i take pictures around people’s houses so I’ve kind of given up on that.)

I never wear my cardigans button up, but I do like how they give off a sweater look! (Actually, I almost never wear cardigans. Shame on me!) I really like the green with the leopard scarf, it’s amazing what scarves can do for an outfit.

Apparently the first floor of the house is just for events (weddings, etc) and the the rest of it is divided into apartments and condos.

Mind blown. I never thought to button up my cardigans all the way! Ha ha! I should get some more colors of them in the ones you showed me. I really like them :)

    • Erin @ Loop Looks November 16, 2012 at 9:24 am #

Yep! Who needs sweaters in the same color when you can just wear a cardigan that way?

  9. Emily November 17, 2012 at 9:28 am #

The scarf is the perfect touch for this outfit! Can you do a post sometime on how to wear animal-print shoes and/or accessories, please? I just got a great pear of leopard-print heels and need some tips on how to wear them! (Can I get away with wearing them to the office or are they too racy!?!?!?)

    • Emily November 17, 2012 at 9:28 am #

Sorry, great “PAIR” of heels, not great “PEAR” of heels. Big difference. =D

    • Erin @ Loop Looks November 17, 2012 at 5:18 pm #

Animal print heels are totally office appropriate! I wear mine to the office all the time. Check out my pattern mixing post for some more leopard ideas. But I can certainly devote a future You Pick Wednesday to it!
