Inspiration Monday – Grey or Gray?

Today’s Inspiration Monday from Two Birds is finally someone I actually know! Well, I mean, I don’t know her personally but at least I’ve seen at least one movie she was in.

Ms. Hurley is wearing something that is very on-trend right now: velvet. Which just reminds me of the black velvet pants I had in high school. I don’t currently have anything velvet in my closet so I just went with the color scheme here and stuck with black and grays.
Although, to be honest, I could have worn jeans today. I’m not in the office (took a vacation day) but I still wanted to show you how to take a casual inspiration photo and make it work appropriate.
Also, don’t forget about my contest to win a $50 Visa gift card! Two comments before November 22nd as well as helping me hit either 100 Facebook likes or 200 pageviews a day for at least 5 days. For your reference, here are the stats so far:
Facebook Likes: 65
Days with pageviews over 200: 2
Thanks for your help, everyone!
And thanks again to Molly for taking my outfit photos this week! We took them all on an abnormally warm (and windy) Sunday so if I seem underdressed for current Chicago conditions that’s why.

Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.
Ever since I bought this tie-neck top I have been wanting to pair it with these pants.
Today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite ways to this lace dress that I’ve come up with yet.

hi !
I love your version. I looks very comfy on you!
Thanks! It was pretty comfy. And perfectly warm for a windy and chilly day.
Love your work version! And I always prefer to spell it “grey” — looks classier, no?
My step-sister married a guy with the last name of Gray but I always have to stop and think whether it’s spelled with an A or an E. Sad, huh?
I like your version! Makes the vest pop. And you just gave me an idea of how to wear my “cropped” vest!! it wasn’t cropped to begin with-the dryer caught hold of it :’(.
Bummer! But, yeah, layering a longer shirt under it and wearing a blazer over it sort of hides the cropped-ness.
Grey or Gray indeed?!?
“…but at least I’ve seen at least one movie she was in.” Made me giggle.
I’m sure I’ve seen other movies, but right now only the Austin Powers one is coming to mind.
i love this look on you. those pants are so flattering and the grey (gray?) blazer is super cute! we don’t know half the people we choose either….sad, huh?
Oh, good, I’m not the only person who doesn’t know who current celebrities are! Where do you find your photos, anyway?
love the gray and black together
i do own a velvet pair of pants and a velvet jacket
they are grouped with my holiday wear, but i should just get them out and start wearing them now
brett
Velvet is totally in for non-holiday wear right now! So get those puppies out of the closet!
I like your take on this, it’s a quite stylish monochromatic look and I like the little bit of texture and pattern that your sweater adds. I love sweaters like this under blazers, they look like vests and are so polished looking!
On a silly note, grey is the spelling that you use for a grey horse! (Never gray.)
This is the first time I’ve ever worn this sweater vest under a blazer and now I’m wondering why I’ve never done it before. Guess it never occurred to me!
Great bit of horse trivia!
Eh, I’m just a big horse nerd.
The sweater under the blazer really is fantastic, it looks so polished and has a great little menswear feel to fit.
I love the sweater vest, very cute!
Thanks!
Do you think you will get anything in velvet? I just look at it and think about how uncomfortable it was when I tried to wear it in the 90s.
If I do it will be a blazer or maybe a skirt. I’ve seen some cute velvet skinny pants but I, too, recall that they weren’t exactly the most comfortable things on the planet.
