Tight Tights

Funny story about these tights. Last week a reader (Hi, Aparna!) asked me where I got these tights. “Target! Merona brand!” I answered confidently.
When I got home and changed I quick looked at the tag.
Does anyone remember Kathie Lee Gifford? Yeah, she kind of dropped off the radar in the late 1990s. Before that she had a line of clothes at Walmart.
Which means that these tights are at least 10 years old, if not older. In fact, I’m pretty sure there are photos of me wearing them in high school if I think about it hard enough.
Say what you will about Kathie Lee and her Walmart line, but these tights have certainly held up.
Thanks again to my guest photographer, Molly from A Foreign Land!

Right now I’m pretty happy with my closet. But even so there are days when I stand there and stare at all the hangers and think, “I wish I had….”
I’ve had all of these clothing pieces in my closet for a long time. I keep wavering on whether or not to keep the cardigan and then it keeps staying.
Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.

cracking up about those tights. I have a pair of express dress pants I’ve had since 8th grade. I still wear them.
I LOVE that necklace!
Also, that skirt looks awesome on!
I mean, when something still fits and is still in style, why not wear it until it falls apart?
The necklace is gorgeous and the burgundy leather skirt too, I need to buy something in that color
Burgundy is VERY in right now. Shouldn’t be too difficult to find something you love in that color!
Ha ha, can’t tell you how many things I have that are at least 10 years old. If its good, its good
I love the look, that skirt is awesome!

I think these tights and the purple button up collared shirt I had on last week are my two oldest items. Not sure why those made the cut all these years but, you’re right. They must be just good!
I love your gray tights- super cute, and the fact that they lasted as long as they have is awesome!
I was in Ann Taylor last week wearing these tights and the sales girl just randomly blurted out “I LOVE YOUR TIGHTS!” I guess gray tights are really in this year.
I. Want. That. Skirt.
It’s available in several sizes online….
I know, I shouldn’t tempt people.
Hey Erin! I love love love today’s look. And yes, my tights hunt ended with your rec. plush ones..
Yay! I’m glad you found some tights that will work for you!
With all my weight changes (steadily gaining close to 50 pounds in the 10 years after high school, and then losing 30 pounds in the past year and a half), I’m pretty sure I don’t have anything that old. Kind of sad. I also go through spurts where I force myself not to be a clothes hoarder.
BUT, my mom is a clothes hoarder, and I bet she has LOTS of clothes and shoes that old.
But that tights recommendation is still good, I now only buy Merona tights. Decent quality for the price, and lots of colors/textures to choose from.
I’m basically the same size I was in high school (maybe a little bigger but more toned) but I also tend to go through spurts when I purge my closet of things I haven’t worn in a while. Which I guess it what amazes me about these tights. They somehow made it through all the purges!
This is such a great skirt! I have definitely been eyeing it
great outfit!
You’d better snatch it up the next time The Limited has a sale, for sure!
Ha ha ha! That is AMAZING that anyone could have a pair of tights that long! Love it!
That necklace looks so fun in this outfit!
I know, right? They must be made out of some crazy material. I will be sad if they ever die.
WOW, you look *fantastic*! One of my favorite looks of yours ever! Also, you served as my sartorial inspiration today, so look for that post (and shout-out) tomorrow.
Thank you! This outfit also gets compliments from my boss so I know it’s a keeper (my boss is my style inspiration). And I’m excited to see your post tomorrow!!
Is it ok if I use one of your pics (that’s linked to your site, of course) in my post?
Of course!!
Okay, I am just crazy impressed that this pair of tights has lasted for over ten years. That is crazy and I’m going to go see if I can hunt down a pair of those! (My tights last maybe a few weeks, so I’d take a pair that makes it even a year.)
That big floral necklace is gorgeous! I love it placed against the dark gray, it really makes the silver tone shine and looks so sparkly.
If you find some magical tights I want to buy more pairs, too!
