I’ve been pinning monochromatic looks for awhile now and I love the idea of wearing one color head to toe.  At first I didn’t think I had anything that could recreate these looks except for black.  And all black can go one of two ways: classy or witch.

But then last night I remembered, wait, I have a purple skirt and I have a purple blouse.  I pulled them both out and realized they are definitely in the same color family!

Wearing the same color on top and bottom is easier than you’d think.  They don’t need to match perfectly.  As long as they are similar in hue you’re good to go.  And make sure they have slightly different textures.  My skirt has a slight tweed pattern and the top is cotton.  The two different fabrics break up the color so that it doesn’t look too matchy-matchy.

And, of course, no look in Chicago is complete without a jacket these days.

What do you think?  Would you wear the same color all over?

I just wore a monochromatic outfit yesterday, actually! It was all-black which is something I shy away from but I broke it up a little by adding a chunky scarf for more texture and visual interest. It’s funny how wearing one color can put me more out of my comfort zone than pattern mixing!

The key is finding a color that you love and wear all the time anyway (other than black). Purple is one of my favorite colors so I have a lot of it already and I love wearing it.

I wore a monchromatic blue/teal look for the summer. Broke it up with a statement necklace. Wont say it looked chic like your though.. lol.. I love your tights, can you gimme the link please? I want to bring my skirts into winter but sadly none of my tights hold up to the chi weather 🙁

I am loving the all purple! It’s such a soft, pretty look and not purple-people-eater looking at all. You made such a great point about going for slightly different shades and textures in a monochromatic look, it keeps the look interesting but still very purposeful.
Love the coat shoot! November in Chicago sounds chilly!

This would be fun to try! I don’t have any colored bottoms, but I think I will ask for a colored skirt for the holiday. Do you think black on black or white on white would work? It seems better with more colorful… colors.

That new necklace is so fun! I wore mine on Wed 🙂
