Inspiration Monday – Pleats
1 Oct
Blouse – Alfani via Macy’s | Skirt – The Limited | Boots – Liz Claiborne via DSW | Necklace – Macy’s
It’s another Inspiration Monday from Two Birds! Today’s inspiration photo includes a blouse, a pleated skirt and boots.

Since I only own one skirt that is A. work appropriate and B. not a pencil skirt I went with a black and purple color scheme as opposed to black and brown.
I’m also not super jazzed about the booties with the skirt so in order to feel more comfortable I’m swapping out the boots for regular ol’ pumps.
Which shoe do you prefer? How would you interpret this outfit with items from your closet?

Right now I’m pretty happy with my closet. But even so there are days when I stand there and stare at all the hangers and think, “I wish I had….”
I’ve had all of these clothing pieces in my closet for a long time. I keep wavering on whether or not to keep the cardigan and then it keeps staying.
Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.

i love this skirt. the pleats are great on you and i love the colors! both shoes look great, but you have to go with you’re most comfortable in!
Thanks! This inspiration photo definitely had me out of my comfort zone but I liked it.
lovely ensemble! Did you see my effort? Just bracelets… but cool bracelets. Just plan on just bracelets. hahahaha.
Aww, but I like how you mirrored the color pallet with your bracelets. Great idea!
The booties looked cute with your skirt but I’m with you, I never feel comfortable in booties and shorts/skirts.
The only time I wear them with skirts is when I also have on tights. Something about how they aren’t cutting me off at the ankles so obviously that way.
The top and the skirt are so lovely, I love the black line in both that links them- lovely pieces! I actually like the boots look on you- pretty!
Thanks for the compliments!
I never tried those kinds of boots because I was not sure with what to wear them. What do you think works best with them? For some reason, I do seem to prefer them in this outfit.
I prefer to wear them with skinny jeans tucked in or with a skirt or dress and tights. I just don’t love how they cut me off at the ankle! But apparently my eye is more critical of myself since other people seem to like it this way!
love the skirt, i am a sucker for a pleated skirt
great styling

Thanks! There is something about a pleated skirt that is both playful and professional, isn’t there?
Loving the pleats! Your top has such a simple classy look I love it! Great interpretation.

Thanks! I fell in love with this top at a Macy’s fashion show and knew it had to be mine.
Booties get me everytime. Sometimes I love them, sometimes I think Im crazy for liking shoes that cut me off and make my already short legs look shorter. I think you pulled them off quite a bit better, I think the version with the booties could be a super fun winter outfit with dark tights.
I really like the graphic look going on, with the black pipping on the blouse and then the color blocked skirt, it’s a very fun and professional look. (Hah, I like your version better than the inspiration picture! Something about her booties is really throwing me off….)
I’m definitely planning to wear this skirt with tights and the booties this winter!
