Feeling Green

Tonight I’m attending the Fashion’s Night Out event at the State Street Macy’s. Which means I was slightly more concerned about what to wear to that and not as concerned about what to wear to work. So I pulled on an outfit I’ve had in mind for a while. I’m not in love with it but it’s better than going to work naked. I think.
Why am I not in love with it? I’m not entirely sure. Maybe the top isn’t tailored enough for the pants? Maybe I’m too short-torsoed? Maybe the black shoes are throwing off the look? Maybe it feels too casual? I do love the colors and the pattern together, though, so I’ll keep playing with it until it feels just right.

Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.
The fact that I paired two pieces that could be considered slightly casual but added heels and a blazer makes my outfit work appropriate without being traditional.
Ever since I bought this tie-neck top I have been wanting to pair it with these pants.
Today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite ways to this lace dress that I’ve come up with yet.

You look fab, Erin! Excited to see you at Macy’s tonight! And yes, better than attending naked.
I actually have a Corals and Cognacs inspired outfit to wear tonight. Shorts, high heels and a flow-y blouse? You know it!
Love the green pants!
Maybe tucked with a belt? Does the “rule of 3″ come into play here?
Hmm, I think Melissa has a good idea; tucked in could be better.
For some reason with my short torso I don’t always love shirts tucked into pants but I will definitely try it with this one and see if that makes a difference.
Yes, the rule of three should definitely come into play! Look at me, not following my own rules
I blame staying up too late last night finishing a book.
I agree with previous comments about tucking in …. or maybe knotting the ends? Also, it might be fun to try it with a different pair of shoes.
Looking forward to your restyle of this.
I considered knotting the ends! I may try that for a casual Friday look before it gets too cold.
I like all the pieces, especially those green pants. I would also try maybe a skinny belt to help define the waist — ooh, even your leopard print belt would be a fun bit of pattern-mixing, otherwise a black skinny belt would also pick up on the shoes — with the shirt untucked or not. I like options
Good idea on the leopard! I’m excited to try reworking this.
Oh yeah, I’ve got a short torso as well, it can be hard to pull off the long shirt/ankle pants look together. I think it looks cute and casual this way, but I think it would be easy to dress it up without changing very much. I think tucking the shirt in and adding a great heel would be all you’d need to do. I really like the combo of the green pants and the polka dotted shirt(LOVE that shirt!) those look great together.
Oh, have fun at your event tonight, it sounds like it will be a blast!
I have some awesome heels on order so I will definitely wear those next time. And I’ll try tucking in the shirt and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestions!
I’m glad I’m not the only one with short-torso problems. I also don’t like wearing stuff tucked in all that often because I feel it sits weird/looks weird. I really love those green pants! Thanks for another great post!
I’ve gotten more okay with tucking things into skirts, but I’m not thrilled with tucking things into pants. But maybe it doesn’t look as weird as I think.
I really liked it! Maybe it just looks better in person? You should fire your photographer
Maybe I’m just not photogenic
