Welcome to the first day of a whole week of Open to Interpretation!
Erica, Kayla, and Grace are hosting a whole week of Open to Interpretation challenges. Not sure what this is? Well last week they posted photos that they thought would make good inspiration photos. The idea isn’t to copy the look exactly but to let it inspire you to put together an outfit you might not have otherwise thought of.
Monday’s OTI pic?
I have been craving a pink skirt and finally found the perfect one at New York and Company on Friday. And since I love to wear my new items ASAP, this was the perfect opportunity to put it on. A skirt is much more work appropriate than shorts!
I took the bright bottoms and paired them with the white button down that has a little sass in the form of the silver threads. Boat shoes instead of heels give a nod to the casual footwear in the inspiration photo. An animal print belt gives the look a bit more dimension than just a bottom and a top (and goes with my Three Things rule). No hat, though. I look ridiculous in hats.

Nothing is classier to me than tweed and a pencil skirt.
A reader recently contacted me and asked for help with a pair of ankle boots she just bought.
Right now I’m pretty happy with my closet. But even so there are days when I stand there and stare at all the hangers and think, “I wish I had….”
I’ve had all of these clothing pieces in my closet for a long time. I keep wavering on whether or not to keep the cardigan and then it keeps staying. 
I just got that skirt, too! =) I love how it takes center stage with the simple white shirt!

When I realized that almost all my skirts were dark colored I knew I needed at least one bright one for summer!
I saw a nice yellow pencil skirt in Loft last week that I might have used to interpret it. I really don’t have a decent white button down. Maybe that is a staple I need. Too boring to shop for though.
I agree that button downs can be really boring. And painful to shop for. They never seem to fit quite right in one way or another.

Funny how such a simple item (pencil skirt) becomes so awesome when you add color!
Bright bottom, crisp white buttondown and black belt… It’s funny how easy and awesome something that simple can turn out.
I know, right? And without the OTI to keep me on my toes who knows if I would have come up with this combo.
I love this outfit. The pink and the white are so classic without being muted.
I’m loving the bright pink that’s in right now. So much more fun than traditional pink.
