Some days you’ve just got to go for simple. Black pants and a button down are about as simple as it gets. But this button down has a little sass because of the ruffles at the top and the small stripe. Pair it with a fun animal print belt and you’ve got some fun pattern mixing to take simple up a notch!

Nothing is classier to me than tweed and a pencil skirt.
A reader recently contacted me and asked for help with a pair of ankle boots she just bought.
Right now I’m pretty happy with my closet. But even so there are days when I stand there and stare at all the hangers and think, “I wish I had….”
I’ve had all of these clothing pieces in my closet for a long time. I keep wavering on whether or not to keep the cardigan and then it keeps staying.
Pairing the fancy sequined skirt with a neutral colored cardigan and nude heels helps keep it from being too bling-y or overwhelming.

I like how you have open toed shoes too. That makes it more fun for sure! I really like that necklace. Was it a gift?
Hmm. My simple go to… seems to be a dress lately! Just throw it on with a jacket
Easy peasy.
Honestly, I am scared of button downs and have almost rid my closet of them because of a bad track record with them when I first started working in May of 2007.
The key to a button down shirt is to find one that fits really well. Otherwise, yeah, they can look sloppy. Finding one that fits is easier for some people than others but it can be done! Also, tucking it in makes a huge difference.
But a dress with a jacket is also super simple but sophisticated! An excellent go-to look.
Yes, the necklace was a gift. I’ll tell you that story sometime
