My First Stitch Fix

Shopping

StitchFixLogo

Have you heard of Stitch Fix?  It’s a personal shopping website.  Here’s how it works:

1.  You fill out a survey about your style, body shape, likes and dislikes (complete with lots of visuals to choose from)

2.  You choose a delivery date.  You can have them pre-set (as in, the first of every month) or you can just log-in and request a “fix” whenever you want.

3.  You pay $20 for each “fix”.

4.  The Stitch Fix personal shoppers choose 5 items including jewelry, dresses, tops, and pants and mail them to you on your “fix” date.

5.  You get a few days to try them all on with your own stuff in the comfort of your own home.  Anything you keep your $20 goes towards the price of that item.  Anything you don’t want you return in the provided postage paid envelope.  You don’t get your $20 back, though, if you decide not to keep anything.

I signed up and just got my first “fix” this week.

Items #1 & #2 – Blouse and Necklace

looplooks_stitchfix_sale 008

looplooks_stitchfix_sale 001 looplooks_stitchfix_sale 007

Pros – Both the blouse and necklace looked much cuter once it was on than they did in the box

Cons – The dolman sleeves on the top looked a little ridiculous and I felt like I was swimming in the top.  The necklace was a little long and heavy for what I usually wear.

Item #3 –  Sleeveless Blouse

looplooks_stitchfix_sale 009 looplooks_stitchfix_sale 014

Pros – Love the cut of this top!

Cons – The colors weren’t my favorite.  Also, it has a huge keyhole style back.

looplooks_stitchfix_sale 011 I’d have to wear something over it to wear it to work and that would take away from the cuteness of the shape.  Or I suppose I could wear a cami under it but I’d rather just be able to wear it on its own.

Item #4 – Tank top

looplooks_stitchfix_sale 024

looplooks_stitchfix_sale 016 looplooks_stitchfix_sale 021

Pros – Versatile!  Looks just as good casual as it does dressed up.  Made of bamboo and cotton so it’s eco-friendly.

Cons – Not sure how bamboo wears over the long term.  A little more than I would normally spend on a top.

Item #5 – Strapless dress

looplooks_stitchfix_sale 028 looplooks_stitchfix_sale 029

Pros – Cute pattern!  The skirt part fit well.

Cons – Strapless.  Where would I wear this?  Also, the top was pretty tight.

So, in the end, what did I decide to keep?

The tank top!

My first “fix” was fun!  I definitely would not have picked any of those items off the rack at the store.  When I first pulled them out of the box I wrinkled my nose at all of them.  But I took their advice when they said “Try on all of your goodies (even the ones you think are so not you.  You might be surprised!).”

So far I would highly recommend Stitch Fix to anyone who likes shopping, hates shopping, feels stuck in a rut, or just wants to try something different.  And if you don’t like anything?  You’re out $20.

Another gray and rainy Friday.  What is up with that?  I recently picked up this top at Express on clearance and it’s the perfect comfy piece to wear under a blazer on casual Friday.  Especially when it’s raining and you’d rather be curled up under a blanket on your couch drinking tea.

What do you usually wear when it’s raining?

Today I’m participating in the Open to Interpretation challenge!

Freckles in April OTI

And what am I interpreting? This photo from Freckles in April:

I’d been craving some bright green pants for awhile and this challenge was the impetus to bite the bullet and buy the ones I’ve been eying. They weren’t cheap (definitely my March splurge) but I have lots of ideas on how to wear them! And thanks to this interpretation challenge I know now I can wear them with polka dots and leopard!

How would you interpret this outfit with what you have in your closet?

Some days you’ve just got to go for simple.  Black pants and a button down are about as simple as it gets.  But this button down has a little sass because of the ruffles at the top and the small stripe.  Pair it with a fun animal print belt and you’ve got some fun pattern mixing to take simple up a notch!

What’s your simple go-to outfit?

Another casual Friday look!  The one day a week I can wear jeans to the office.

In fact, before I started this blog I spent a lot of time looking at other fashion blogs to see if I could help fill a niche.  What I found is that a lot of fashion bloggers were either too “high brow” (re: expensive designers, crazy vintage) or too casual (mostly jeans).  But, Jill at at Good Life (For Less) is pretty good at inspiring me with her color and pattern combinations even if she does despise dress pants.  So, I’m excited that she’s hosting a giveaway of her Spring 2012 looks:book!  All you have to do is follow her blog (and trust me, you’ll want to) and leave a comment!

And speaking of Spring, it appears our early summer weather has been replaced by traditional Chicago Spring weather.  Meaning:  rain.  So, in the interest of full disclosure, this is what I looked like while walking to the office:

Last year I ran the Madison to Chicago Ragnar Relay with a group of people from work and some friends we recruited from outside the office.  One of those friends is Tom.   I didn’t know Tom before the relay but we’ve been friends on Facebook since.

Tom is an amazing man of many talents.  He is one of the most giving people I’ve ever met.  So when he was raising money for the Special Olympics he incentivized his friends to give by offering a free photo shoot for anyone who donated.

Tom and I met up today to take some photos.

He definitely has an eye for photography!  I’m excited to take these photos and create some fun things out of them.

Today is AMAZING outside.  I had to escape my office for lunch.  Thankfully working in the Chicago Loop area affords me many lovely places to hang out on my lunch break.    Like the Chicago Art Institute.

I was telling Kim a few weeks ago that I was hesitant to wear these pants because it was too cold.  And today it’s almost too warm for them!  Craziness.  I’m loving this weather, though.  I may have to purchase a few more pairs of fun, colorful cropped pants so I can take advantage of it to its fullest extent.

Why am I calling this look Inspired Denim?  Because it was inspired by an outfit idea from The Gap:

It feels a little casual for a non-summer weekday in the office but since I don’t have any meetings I think it will fly.

One of the blogs I read (You Look Fab) HATES cropped pants.  I, on the other hand, think they are a staple of office wear when you live in a city that gets hot and humid for a few months out of the year.  And since our hot weather has shown up a bit earlier than usual so did the cropped pants.

How do you feel about cropped pants?
